Money sent to bank
People are always looking for ways to save money, especially with the state of the economy and job market. From carpooling to work and classes to cutting down on dinners out, and giving up little pleasures, people are looking for ways to save dollars each month. One of the big trends that are really catching on is that of couponing. Grabbing the Sunday paper, or any ads and fliers you can find, can be a great way to find coupons that could help you save on your weekly grocery bill.
Avoid Unnecessary Purchases
When you use coupons, it is important that you avoid the temptation to make any unnecessary purchases during your shopping trip. Just because you find a coupon you want to use, if you do not need that item, you do not need to buy it. Even getting a $5 item for $3, if you did not need that item, that is $3 you did not need to spend. You're going to lose money instead of saving money if you do this too often.
Prepare Ahead of Time
Make sure you take the time to prepare before you head out shopping. Compare different stores to see what their policies are concerning coupons. Some stores will let you use competitor's coupons and other stores may offer special discounts on certain days that allow you to double or triple the value of the coupons on those days. Knowing what the store policies are can help you plan what day to do your shopping and what coupons will be the best to use.
Learn the Extras
Learn about "stacking" as it can go a long way in helping you get the most out of your couponing. Stacking is the term used to describe when someone combines a store coupon with a manufacturer coupon for the same item. Some stores offer their own coupons in paper inserts and fliers. Other stores may not have coupons but will use the coupons the product manufacturer is offering. Many grocery stores will let you combine their coupons with the coupons from the manufacturer because you can save even more on each item you use coupons for. Be sure to check your receipt when you purchase your groceries because many stores are now printing store coupons on the back of their receipts.
Combine Special Offers
Make sure you check out the newspaper for weekly sale fliers. Sometimes the discounted items are things that are getting near their expiration date and need to be sold quickly. Other stores offer special deals during holiday seasons or before big events in order to generate more sales in the store. Check for these fliers each week to see what sales and discounts may be offered at your local stores.
Make a list before you leave home and head to the store. This will help you know what you need to get so you do not forget anything while you are shopping. It is also important that you stick to your list. Avoid the temptation to get things not on your list unless you absolutely need it right now and cannot wait till next week.
